Lauren Szmak and Marie Frey are third-year physical therapy students in the doctorate of physical therapy program at Quinnipiac. For their capstone project, they wanted to help to create a sustainable physical therapy school in Haiti. Szmak said she was inspired by Tracy Kidder’s “Mountains Beyond Mountains” which covered Dr. Paul Farmer’s outreach work in Haiti.

“Enabling individuals to not only follow their passions but to also help others in the process is a dream come true for us,” said Szmak, “We have been working hard to develop a strong curriculum and scholarship funds to support student enrollment.”
