Quinnipiac University Professor Awarded Fellow Status by the APA

Quinnipiac University psychology professor Michele Hoffnung has been awarded fellow status by the American Psychological Association.

HAMDEN, CT – Michele Hoffnung, of Hamden, professor of psychology emerita at Quinnipiac University, has been awarded fellow status by the American Psychological Association. Hoffnung has been a part of the psychology department at Quinnipiac since 1970.

This award is bestowed upon those who have given outstanding contributions to the field of psychology.

“Throughout my career as a teacher, mentor and scholar I have worked diligently to promote the understanding of women's development, women's issues and women's decisions about career and family,” Hoffnung said, “To have my contributions recognized by the American Psychological Association is a most gratifying honor.”

Hoffnung received a bachelor’s degree from Douglass College of Rutgers University and a PhD from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She received the Pioneer, Psychology of Women Award from the American Psychological Association in 2009 for being one of the first professors to teach a course in the psychology of women (1969) and to publish the first book for the course (1971). Hoffnung also received the Heritage Award from the American Psychological Association in 2015 for her contributions to the psychology of women and feminist psychology.
