HAMDEN, CT — The Sacred Heart Academy basketball team is making a return trip to the Class LL state championship game.

The fourth-seeded Sharks defeated No. 8 Mercy 59-39 in the Class LL semifinals Tuesday night at Pomperaug High School in Southbury.

Sacred Heart Academy will face No. 2 Southington in the championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Sharks lost to town rival Hamden, 46-40, in last year’s Class LL final.

Sacred Heart edged Hamden, 45-44, in a second-round showdown last week before beating fifth-seeded Conard, 45-38, in the quarterfinals on Friday night.
