Sacred Heart Academy Edges Rival Hamden In Class LL Tournament

Sacred Heart Academy eliminated defending state champion Hamden with a 45-44 victory in the Class LL girls basketball tournament.

HAMDEN, CT — The Sacred Heart Academy girls basketball team exacted a measure of revenge by edging rival Hamden 45-44 in the second round of the CIAC Class LL tournament on Wednesday night.

Hamden defeated Sacred Heart in last year's Class LL championship game. The Sharks also beat Hamden in the SCC tournament final last week.

The 13th-seeded Green Dragons finished the season with a 16-9 record, while No. 4 Sacred Heart will play fifth-seeded Conard in the Class LL quarterfinals on Friday night.

Emily Mennillo scored 22 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, to lead Sacred Heart Academy, according to GameTimeCT.com. Lyla D’Errico and Madelyn Burke each added nine points apiece for the Sharks.

Kamora Moore led Hamden with 22 points, while Aunee Brookshire scored 10 and Tailor Haynes had eight.
