HAMDEN, CT — The Sacred Heart Academy girls soccer team’s season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Avon in the second round of the Class L tournament Tuesday in Hamden.

Avon, the tournament’s 14th seed, advanced to a quarterfinal showdown with No. 6 Rocky Hill on Friday. Avon defeated Waterford in its first-round game on Oct. 31.

Sacred Heart had earned a first-round bye as the tournament’s third seed.
