Two Hamden Teens Charged in Attempted Burglary

The pair allegedly tried to break into a Forest Court North home, according to police.

Two Hamden teens were arrested Wednesday morning after they were allegedly were found with burglary tools in their car when they were pulled over not far from where police had just received a report of a burglary in progress, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday police got the report of the burglary at a Forest Court North residence, Smith said, where there were reportedly two people leaving the home and with crow bars in their hands.

The two got into a car and sped away, Smith said, and moments later Officer Ronald Glifort saw the car on Evergreen Avenue and pulled it over on Hampshire Drive.

After burglary tools were found in the car, the two 16-year-old Hamden residents were charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal Trespass, possession of burglar tools and conspiracy

"An investigation revealed that the individuals had allegedly cut a screen to a basement window," Smith said.
 
They are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on May 1, Smith said.
