What Road in Hamden Needs a Speed Bump?
We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

HAMDEN, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.
While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Hamden. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

- "Paradise Ave behind the Laurel View Country Club. The road gets zero maintenance because it's considered a dead end, but it is an outlet of the golf course and we get speeding golfers all summer."
- "Howard Drive 'cut through' from Shepard Ave to get to Mix Ave! That yellow line in the road with a 25 mile speed limit does not work well!"
- "Blue Hills Avenue! It's a straight away and people FLY down this road! I've been t-boned in my driveway and have had 3 cats run over from speeding cars."
- "The stop sign at Park Road and Ridge. No one stops at that sign. There have been several accidents. I hear drivers blow their horns at other drivers that have blown that stop sign so many times a day that I've lost count."
- "Sebec. Too many fly down that street. There are lots of kids in this area."
- "Whitney Ave from New Haven town line to Quinnipiac. Every foot. With spikes on end if attempting to go around and if you go over on angle, the car bottoms out."
- "West Todd. However, Hamden PD says more people complain about speed traps than speeding, so it's not going to happen."
- "Lane/Benham. All the other schools have traffic calming mechanisms except this one."
- "Cooper Lane...It's a speedway!"
- "Woodin Street. Especially now that the fence is coming down and they are opening a road from New Haven."
