HAMDEN, CT — After emerging as the Democratic candidate for Hamden mayor with a decisive victory over a crowded field of candidates in Tuesday’s primary election, Adam Sendroff said the “job’s not done yet” with an eye toward the municipal election in November.

Sendroff defeated the party’s endorsed candidate, Legislative Council President Dominique Baez, and fellow challengers Peter Cyr, Lushonda Howard, and Walter Morton IV in the Democratic primary.

Sendroff received 2,464 votes, while Baez had 1,144 votes, and was followed by Morton with 632, Howard with 544, and Cyr with 507, according to unofficial results from the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office.

In his victory speech, Sendroff said his campaign has been a “remarkable team effort” and he also thanked the other four candidates for a “good race.”

“There have been some notable successes in this campaign to celebrate,” Sendroff said. “We did a great job collecting the signatures to petition our way onto the ballot. But as one of our volunteers reminded at the time – the job is not done yet. We held two successful fundraisers and out raised our competition, and again we were reminded – the job is not done yet. And tonight, we won the Democratic primary for mayor, and guess what? The job’s not done yet.

“We’re leaving a crowded primary field and we’re entering a crowded general election field. Everything resets tomorrow and this team will be ready to finish the job.”

Sendroff will face Republican candidate Jonathan Katz in the November election, along with Green Party candidate Patricia C. Vener-Saavedra and Democrat Jameka Jefferies, who is running as a petitioning candidate, according to the New Haven Register.
