Your Opinion: Hamden Voters Are to Blame

One Hamden resident says that when it comes to the town's woes, voters have no one but themselves to blame.

To the Editor,

The next election cycle has started here in Hamden, so please reflect on what you are about to read.

For decades Hamden voters have caused all the problems that Hamden residents face today, and into the future. The reason I say this is simple, 75% of Hamden voters do not research or do very little research about the people who run for political office in Hamden or do they research quality of life issues, which affect every Hamden resident.

Here are five questions.

1) How many Hamden residents attend Legislative Council meetings or watch Legislative Council meetings when they are broadcast on TV?

2) How many Hamden residents attended Planning & Zoning meetings?

3) How many Hamden residents know the name of their district Legislative Council member?

4) How many Hamden residents go to Hamden Republican and Democratic Party town committee meetings?

5) How many Hamden residents know what Hamden’s current mill rate is?

The answer to all five questions, very few Hamden residents do.

There is no one political leader or political party in Hamden that can be blamed entirely for high taxes, poor roads, a poor educational system and the corruption in Hamden’s political system. We the voters and residents of Hamden are at fault for the poor quality of life in Hamden, because we choose not to involve ourselves in our town government.

Therefore, the finger of blame has to be pointed at the voters and residents of Hamden first before it can be pointed in any other direction this election cycle.
