Cold Case Killer Who Murdered Windsor Man In Hartford Sent To Prison: State

A Hartford Superior Court judge sentenced the 47-year-old New Mexico man to decades behind bars for the 2008 killing.

HARTFORD/WINDSOR, CT — A New Mexico man was sentenced to prison in Hartford Superior Court last week for killing a 25-year-old Windsor man in Hartford back in 2008.

Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin said Wednesday that Mark White, 47, of Albuquerque, N.M., was sentenced to 40 years in prison with six months of jail credit for the 2008 fatal shooting of Jumar Joiner, 25, of Windsor, in Hartford.

A Hartford Superior Court jury March 7 found White guilty of murder.

According to evidence at trial, on May 3, 2008, police responded to a report of a shooting in the area of West Morningside Street in Hartford.

Griffin said a report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Joiner suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting.

In the days, weeks, and months following Joiner’s death, investigators followed up on tips and leads but no arrest was made.

In 2017, the Division of Criminal Justice’s Cold Case Unit’s tip line received new leads in the case, Griffin said.

That information, including the names of two men who told police they witnessed the shooting, helped result in the March 2022 arrest of White, he said.

At the time, White was in the custody of law enforcement authorities in New Mexico on charges of illegal possession of handguns and cocaine, Griffin said.
