HARTFORD/EAST HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man will see a judge after police said he drove recklessly on Interstate 84 in East Hartford and engaged state police in pursuit.

According to state police, Ryan Williams, 25, of Hartford, was charged June 15 with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, engaging police in pursuit, improper passing/unsafe distance/cutting in, failure to drive in proper lane, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest.

Police said the owner of the Hyundai Williams was driving, and Williams arrived at Troop H in Hartford at 12:18 a.m. on Sunday, June 15.

Williams was released from custody on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on July 11.

According to state police, on Saturday, June 14 at about 10:50 p.m., a trooper assigned to Troop H- Hartford was patrolling I-84 eastbound in East Hartford.

Prior to Exit 58, the trooper observed a red Hyundai Elantra driving erratically across all three lanes of traffic, police said in a report released June 20.

The trooper subsequently clocked the vehicle's speed over 90 mph and activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, wrote state police.

Police said Williams failed to comply, took Exit 58, and continued onto Roberts Street in East Hartford.

"Upon approaching the intersection of Brookside Lane, the Hyundai nearly collided with other vehicles," wrote police in a report. "The trooper disengaged pursuit efforts at this time but was able to obtain the vehicle's registration information."

Police said the trooper then conducted a follow-up investigation at the registered owner's address in Manchester and observed the vehicle was not at the property.

A family member at the residence explained the registered owner was not likely to flee from police, and the family member assisted in contacting the registered owner by phone, police said.

According to police, it was later learned the registered owner was not driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, but did agree to meet with Troopers at Troop H.
