6 Telephone Poles Fall in a Row on Ledyard Road

Certain homes are inaccessible on Gallup Hill Road. Ledyard Police are asking drivers to take alternate routes.

Six telephone poles in a row fell across Gallup Hill Road in Ledyard Thursday, Feb. 25. Ledyard Police said the road is closed from Town Farm Road to Wendell Comrie.

“Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes,” they advise.

Initially, police observed four fallen poles but soon realized six had fallen.

“It’s actually 6 poles in a row,” Ledyard Police Department said via Facebook. “Had to walk a bit to take it all in… Looks like wind took one weak pole down and 5 others followed!”

Some homeowners on Gallup Hill Road are unable to get home, as police said houses between #213-241 are inaccessible.

The overnight thunderstorm wreaked havoc across the state, resulting in more than 50,000 outages at one point, felled trees and downed wires. As of 4:50 p.m., Eversource is reporting 629 Ledyard homes without power.
