Daily Five: Free Land, PEEPs Dioramas Wanted, Tax Credits Available

Five things to know on Monday, March 19.

 

Kind of a mixed bag with patchy fog in the wee hours today. Noaa.gov says patchy fog before 9a.m, otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 67. And in the evening there’s a slight chance of showers. Patchy fog between 3am and 4am, then patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.  

The 7th Annual Artists' and Writers' Showcase at is looking for entrants. The showcase is open to people who are a senior in high school or older. Visual artists are limited to three entries, there is no limit for written pieces. All submissions must be received by Weds. April 11. The opening reception is Sat., April 14 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m The entry form is available on the library’s website.

The application period for elderly or totally disabled homeowner tax credits is February 1 through May 15th. The asks that you include copies of your 2011 tax returns (if you file), your social security 1099 forms, and any other year-end income statements with your application. The applications are available by contacting Adrianna at assessor.asst@ledyardct.org.

Mayor Rodolico mentioned that he’s planning to buy an approximately 20-acre parcel of land just north of the sub base. Ledyard will be reimbursed by the state for the purchase under the condition that the town not develop the land at all. Rodolico said the agreement makes the sub base more attractive in the event of another BRAC because it increases the blast zone. If bombs get bigger and more powerful, increased blast zones will be necessary. Rodolico said the land may be used for recreational hiking, etc.
