Daily Five: How Many Potholes Can Be Patched With $500?
Five things to know on Monday, April 9.

3. Home builders have to pay in advance to have public works add a road apron that connects their new driveway to the town’s road. The cost is $500. If the homeowner never builds a house and never returns the town’s phone calls offering a refund, then the money is transferred to a general road maintenance account.
Steve Masalin, the director of said he has been trying to get in touch with one homeowner for seven years before the finance committee transferred the $500 bond to general road maintence Wednesday. With the money, Masalin can buy seven tons of asphalt, which amounts to three days of worth of pothole patching; or, 350 feet of curbing, which is a typical repair in the springtime after the plow trucks have chipped away at curbs through the winter.

4. Speaking of the finance committee, they meet again tonight and may adopt a budget to recommend to the town council Wednesday.
