Daily Five: Yay, It’s National Donut Day!

Five things to know on Friday, June 1.

1. Today is forecast to be great doughnut eating weather. It is supposed to be mostly sunny, with a high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. And tonight, the doughnut eating continues with a backdrop of rain likely and patchy fog or mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. (See how any type of weather is good enough for doughnut eating?)

2. National Doughnut Day started in 1938 as a fundraiser for Chicago's The Salvation Army. Their goal was to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to honor The Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers, according to Wikipedia.
