Ledyard Colonels and New London Whalers Set to Clash at Homecoming
More than just pride is on the line when the two regional power-houses meet Saturday.

An annual rite of passage is occurring this weekend. Homecoming . Where a king and queen are crowned, dresses and suits are tailored and promises and memories are made.
But to some, the most important aspect of the weekend is the scheduled football game featuring your 6-2 Ledyard Colonels versus the 6-2 New London Whalers. Both teams have been spectacular this season with strong passing attacks that are complimented by steady and productive running game and supported by stout and punishing defenses.

The game features two of the region’s top football programs, which have been deeply rooted in tradition and community. According to Colonel Coach James Buonocore the programs have been two of the most competitive in southeastern Connecticut for the past 35-plus years. On the line Saturday: State playoff consideration and bragging rights. With a win and a 7-2 record, the winner will certainly advance into a championship berth, but a 6-3 record will keep the loser of this game out of contention.
The excitement begins to build on today when a pep rally is scheduled to take place at LHS at 1 p.m.

The game will take place at the Bill Mignault Field located on the Ledyard High School campus at 10:30 a.m. With so much on the line and with 0% chance of rain and a kickoff temperature forecast to be 53 degrees under sunny skies, the stands are expected to swell to capacity.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. tomorrow and tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students; senior citizens and children will be admitted for free. In addition, representatives for Wireless Zone will be on hand passing out gift certificates with the purchase of each ticket.
The New London Day will also be on hand producing ESPN-style coverage and broadcast with multiple camera angles and replays available to watch on theday.com and on other multimedia devices.
