PHOTOS: A French Toast Breakfast For Work Well Done
Students of the Month and Spotlight Students want more time between classes.
When Ledyard Middle School Principal Joseph Chella is looking for ideas about improving the school, he turns to experts – the students.
Each month Chella hosts a breakfast for the students of the month who are recognized for either their academic achievements or unique contributions and involvement with the community.

"They get the principal's ear," he said of the hearty breakfast of French toast, bananas and orange juice. "And I've implemented some of their ideas."
When Chella asked the group what improvements can be made, most of the group said they'd like more time between classes.

Kathleen Ferrie, who was recognized for her academic achievements, said she'd like to be able to visit her locker more often so that she doesn't have to carry so many books throughout the day.
Chella said that this group of seventh and eighth graders has it good with two minute between classes. He said the school used to allow one minute between classes but, as a result of a student of the month breakfast, the time was extended to two minutes.
