UPDATED: Route 117 Re-Opens to Traffic After Diesel Fuel Spill [with PHOTOS]
A part of Route 117 was closed for most of the day while crews cleaned up spilled diesel fuel between Sandy Hollow Road to Lake Street.
Updated 3:25 p.m.: Police say Route 117 is completely open to traffic now.
Updated 2:07 p.m.: Police say Route 117 between Sandy Hollow Road and Lake Street now has one lane alternating traffic while crews continue to clean the road. It is estimated to be fully opened by 4 p.m.
Updated 12:31 p.m.: Police plan to re-open Route 117 around 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. today.

Route 117 is closed from Sandy Hollow Road to Lake Street now after a delivery truck carrying approximately 200 gallons of diesel fuel sprung a leak and spilled an unknown amount of fuel while travelling on Route 117 around 11 a.m. according to police.

Ledyard and Gales Ferry fire departments, the Submarine Base fire department Haz Mat, DEEP Haz Mat, and the Ledyard Police department are on scene.
Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein said it is not clear how long the road will be closed.
