Police make arrests for Groton Reservoir fire and Shewville Road closure.

 

The following arrests were submitted by the Ledyard Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all are innocent until proven guilty.

A single car crashed into a utility pole on Shewville Road Saturday night closing the road for 12 hours, according to a police report. The crashed caused heavy damage, according to the report, and the driver incurred minor injuries.

John McClung, 20, of 24 Bergendahl Drive in Griswold had minor injuries and was transported to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment. McClung was charged with operating while under suspension and failure to drive right.

The , Ledyard Fire Company, and Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad responded.

Arrest in Reservoir fire investigation

A Mystic man was arrested and charged with reckless burning for on Feb. 22.

David R. Ort, 21, of 148 Lambtown Road in Mystic, turned himself into police today after learning of warrants for his arrest.

On that day, the Ledyard Police Department, along with the Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Departments responded to a report of smoke coming from a wooded area in that location. Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department, Office of the Ledyard Fire Marshal, and the Groton Town Police Department led to Ort's arrest.

Ort was also arrested by the Groton Town Police Department in relation to fires in the region. He was given an April 2 court date.
