Ruth Snow, 92, of 10 Iron Street, has lived in Ledyard all her life. She said her uncle nicknamed it Iron Street way back when they could hear the steel tires of horse-drawn carriages crunching and grinding up and down that road all day.
"I guess the name stuck," she said, "and so did I."

She is the figure you may have seen walking around the center of Ledyard picking up trash from the side of the road.
Mrs. Snow said that she finds a lot of trash and mostly cans and bottles along the side of the road and she was given a certificate of appreciation by the Town of Ledyard some years ago, she said, "for picking up the trash on the side of the road."

Mrs. Snow cashes in the bottles and cans for the deposit and she collects the pop tabs from soda cans for charity.
Mrs. Snow graduated from the Ledyard Center school house in 1934 and then graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1938. She learned to sew at NFA, and since she has a great memory, she also does alterations and sewing projects for people.
Ruth Snow had some advice for people hoping to age as well as she has: "Do what you have to do or want to do and forget the rest."
