Scam Alert in Ledyard: Police Warn of Phony IRS Calls

Ledyard Police advise residents to hang up immediately upon receiving phony calls from people claiming to be from the IRS.

The Ledyard Police Department is asking citizens to be vigilant when it comes to IRS scams reported by residents recently.

“This is the scam where the caller identifies himself or herself as some type of agent with the IRS and informs you that you have filed incorrectly, violated federal law, or something of the sort,” police said. “They then ask or even demand you pay “x” amount to avoid being fined or even arrested.”

Police said the IRS does not use this tactic.
