Paul Lunt, 88, of Norwich was driving a 2000 Nissan on Route 12 and “left the travel portion of the road striking the pole.” Lunt was transported to the William W. Backus hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Ledyard Police Lt. Michael Finkelstein.

The utility pole however, was snapped near the base and needed to be replaced. Wires needed to be either re-strung or replaced and the road was closed for most of the day and people were detoured around the construction site.
