LEDYARD, CT — The Ledge Light Health District has lifted advisories for two local swimming areas. Gorton Pond in East Lyme and Highland Park in Ledyard were issued swimming advisories Wednesday due to high bacterial counts.

The health district conducted resampling on the swimming areas' water Friday. The results were within acceptable limits, and the advisories were lifted Saturday.

There are currently no swimming advisories or closures in effect for any LLHD-monitored beaches.

The district noted that rain or other contamination events occurring before the Wednesday morning sampling may have contributed to elevated bacterial counts. Areas with stormwater runoff or low water turnover like inland bathing areas are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall.
