LEDYARD, CT — The Ledge Light Health District has issued swimming advisories for Gorton Pond in East Lyme and Highland Park in Ledyard, according to a statement on its Facebook page. The swimming advisories were issued Wednesday.

The advisories were issued after routine bathing water sampling was conducted. The district will resample the water at both bathing areas Friday.

The district noted that "rain or other contamination events occurring before a sampling may contribute to elevated bacterial counts. Areas with stormwater runoff (storm drainpipes or extensive impervious surfaces) or low water turnover (inland bathing areas) are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall."
