Readers from across the area responded with answers varying from new playgrounds, renovated high schools and improved hospitals.

Also early this week, U.S. News and World Report released its list of the Top 10 Children’s Hospitals Across the Country. The hospitals were ranked in terms of “clinical outcomes,” “efficient coordination of care,” and “care-related resources.”

Many of the things that make a town or city ‘livable’ are resources and public spaces i.e. good schools, roads, parks, libraries, etc. Not surprisingly, these were many of the things readers said they would build or fix in their town if granted $1 million to do so.

  • "I think Gales Ferry Landing has demonstrated that there is a need for affordable space for new retail businesses. I would like to see something similar in Ledyard that would also offer small office space, a large rental area where events, birthdays, and showers could be held. It also could have an outdoor area for things like the farmers market, festivals, weekend flea markets, etc."
  • "A park where you can go run on a track, or push a stroller, or play on a (clean) playground. We have sports fields, but no town park."
  • "Would probably need some corporate sponsors because $1 million isn't enough, but a community center with basketball courts, an all-purpose room for rec classes, and a community pool. All within a track."
  • "A GT program for the schools."
  • "Re-pave Little John Court."
  • "Nature Center or a dog park."
  • "Fully fund the education budget."
  • "Community center with a pool. Fitness center. I loved Curves for women."
  • "The Bill Library as per their renovation plans from a few years ago."
