4 Madison Public Students Win State Leadership Award

The four Madison students attend Polson Middle School and Daniel Hand High School.

MADISON, CT — The 2023 CABE Student Leadership Award is won by four students at Madison Public Schools.

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Awards Program is designed to honor Connecticut high school and middle school students who exhibit exemplary leadership skills.

The Madison Public Schools 2023 CABE winners are: Alice Walker and Kiran Pathy from Daniel Hand High School, and Katherine Rizzo and Owen Scheps from Polson Middle School.

Walker is a motivated, reliable and respected student who takes pride in her academic performance, impact, and involvement outside the classroom, according to a news release. Walker has consistently taken the most challenging courses at Daniel Hand High School, officials said.

Pathy is a well-respected student leader who is wonderfully bright and highly motivated, according to a news release. His determination to put forth his best effort and his entire engagement to what he has committed are reasons for his high degree of success, officials said.

Rizzo has maintained A’s in all her classes throughout middle school and demonstrated mastery in the content and skills of all curricular areas, according to a news release. In addition, teachers often comment on her positive work ethic, diligence and leadership skills, officials said.

Scheps is a hardworking middle school student who sets the standard for conscientious work, according to a news release. Teachers appreciate his positive attitude toward learning the skill and content of the curriculum. When the Polson community was asked to describe Scheps, they said positive, conscientious and respectful, officials said.
