Madison's Favorite Horse Tries, Tries Again ... And Succeeds
Animal Kingdom wins the Dubai Cup Saturday afternoon, and will take home $10 million.

Animal Kingdom, owned by a consortium that includes Madison residents Tom and Julie Furey, Saturday won the Dubai Cup, the world's richest horse race.

The 2011 Kentucky Derby winner, trained by Englishman Graham Motion in Florida, held off the fast-finishing Red Cadeaux, trained by Briton Ed Dunlop. Ryan Moore and Planteur were third with the Andrew Balding-trained Side Glance fourth in the 10 furlong Flat race. Defending champion Monterosso, owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed, was declared lame on the day of the race. Jockey Joel Rosario and Animal Kingdom tracked top US mare Royal Delta, ridden by legendary US jockey Mike Smith, in the early stages before making his move two-and-a-half furlongs out.
