The first class was inducted into the Madison Athletic Hall of Fame Friday night during a celebration on the second floor of the Madison Beach Hotel.
Craig W. Semple, director of athletics at Daniel Hand High School, said the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a major contribution to the success of the overall Athletic Program. The specific criteria is listed at the bottom of this story.Â
The first class of inductees included:Â
- Kirsten Anderson Rappyleyea, Basketball 1984
- Bill Barker, teacher and coach, basketball
- Jim Bell, football and track and field, 1984
- Larry Ciotti, teacher, athletic director, and coach football, wrestling, track and field
- Vicki Crompton, teacher and coach tennis, girls basketball, and softball
- Robert M. Duncanson, teacher, coach and athletic director
- Jeff Farmer, football and basketball 1974
- Rich Fasano, teacher, music director and district coordinator
- Jennifer Fischer-Mueller, basketball, field hockey and softball 1981
- Kevin Flynn, soccer and basketball, 1980
- Jim Guzzio, wrestling 1992
- Jane Hesford, coach gymnastics
- Pat McCahill, teacher and coach, lacrosse and tennis
- Andrew McConville, soccer 1995
- Ellen McMurray Hartmann, gymnastics 1981
- Walter Polson, teacher, coach, athletic director and principal
- Willie Roze, teacher and coach, field hockey, basketball, and softball
- Harold Strong, philanthropist and benefactor of Strong Athletic Field
- Ken Sweitzer, football, basketball and baseball 1978
- Richard Van Deventer, soccer, basketball and track and field 1970
- Corey C. Wielgus, basketball, soccer and cross country 1977
The specific criteria for selection to the Hall of Fame includes:Â
- Athletes must:
- Have graduated from Daniel Hand High School.
- Have graduated ten (10) years prior to consideration.
- Have made significant and conspicuous achievements in their sport or sports as demonstrated, where possible, by statistical documentation, newspaper articles or the number and stature of awards received. Post-graduate athletic achievements will also be considered for DHHS athletes who have earned a varsity letter.
- Have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their contributions to DHHS athletics.
- Have conducted themselves in a manner that has brought credit to DHHS athletics.
Â
- Coaches and Administrators must:
- Have made a long-term exemplary contribution to the DHHS athletic program.
- Have retired at least five (5) years from coaching at DHHS in the sport in which they are being considered or are retired from coaching at DHHS.
- Have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their contributions to DHHS athletics.
- Have conducted themselves in a manner that has brought credit to DHHS athletics.

C.  Distinguished Daniel Hand High School Alumni must:
- Have earned a varsity letter at DHHS and bring honor to their alma mater by making significant contributions to society in their chosen field of endeavor.
- Have graduated from DHHS at least ten (5) years prior to consideration.
- Have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their contributions to DHHS athletics.
- Have conducted themselves in a manner that has brought credit to Daniel Hand athletics.

- Exemplary Contributors to DHHS Athletic Department who do not qualify for consideration under any of the foregoing categories may also be eligible for induction if they:
1.    Have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their contributions to DHHS athletics.
- Have conducted themselves in a manner that has brought credit to DHHS athletics.
E.   Outstanding Teams of surpassing achievement may be eligible for induction.Â
F.   Deceased Contributors to DHHS Athletics in any of the foregoing categories are immediately eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame.
