MADISON, CT — Hammonasset Service Station, a fixture in Madison for decades, closed its doors earlier this month, the owners announced on Facebook.

"It is with a heavy heart that we must share some bittersweet news with all of you today," the owners wrote. "After 25+ wonderful years of serving our community, Hammonasset Service Station will be closing its doors for the last time. This decision was not an easy one, and we wanted to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for your loyalty and support over the years."

The station is located at 905 Boston Post Road in Madison, and the owners, Burger and Pascale families, said that the decision to close was based on several factors, such as "economic challenges, shifts in the industry, and losing both owners Doug and John in 2020."

"In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering support throughout the years," the families wrote. "Without your trust and patronage, we would not have been able to serve the community we love for as long as we have. We hope that you will continue to support other local businesses that serve our community with the same dedication and care that we have strived to provide."

CT Insider reports that the station has been in Madison for 100 years, and got its first gas pumps in 1928.
