Hand Girls Swim/Dive Team Defeats State Champ North Haven In Meet

The Daniel Hand High School Lady Tigers swim and dive team was victorious over reigning Class M State Champion North Haven, 96 to 87.

MADISON, CT - The Daniel Hand Girls Swim and Dive Team defeated the reigning Class M State Champion squad from North Haven Tuesday, 96 to 87, extending their season record to 4-2.

Key finishes for Hand included a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.44) by freshman Samantha Chemacki and a second place finish by senior Abbi Chemacki (2:24.93) in the 200 IM.

Senior Grace Sweeney sprinted to victory in the 50 yard free in 26.47. Senior Kacie Wines placed second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.16), while Sweeney (56.40) and Samantha Chemacki (58.82) came in first and second in the 100 yard free. Abbi Chemacki (5:28.42) and freshman Lillian Miller (5:40.16) swam to first and second in the 500 freestyle, while the 200 free relay team of Kacie Wines, Samy Chemacki, sophomore Haley Wines and Sweeney won the 200 free relay in 1:47.15. Freshman Seorin Kim won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.37 and sophomore Molly Hoban (1:28.17) swam to second in the 100 breaststroke.

Also key to Hand’s victory were performances by freshman divers Juliana Bell and Georgia Cohen.
Hand Head Coach Jen Lyman noted her appreciation for the North Haven team.

“We have a great rivalry with the North Haven team and always enjoy competing against them,” she said.
