Harvest Moon Over Madison!

The harvest moon made its appearance a bit earlier this year than usual, but was it was no less spectacular for that. 

The moon made its way into the sky early evening and hovered there, while Mother Nature gave us a perfect night to go out and view it.

Over at the Mercy Center on Neck Road in Madison, there was a full moon labyrinth walk. If you missed it, no worries, the Mercy Center is sponsoring more on Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. 

The Mercy Center is located at 167 Neck Road in Madison.

Here are some facts about the harvest moon from Earth Sky 

"In traditional skylore, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, and depending on the year, the Harvest Moon can come anywhere from two weeks before to two weeks after the autumnal equinox. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, the 2013autumnal equinox comes on September 22, so the September 19 full moon counts as the Northern Hemisphere’s Harvest Moon.

If you live in North America, the moon turned precisely full before sunrise September 19, but from eastern Asia, the moon turned precisely full after sunset September 19. See worldwide map below. Although the exact instant of the full moon has passed, the Harvest Moon is known for bringing a procession of moonlit nights!"
