On Saturday, May 11th, residents in Madison and all over Connecticut can be part of an initiative designed to help stamp out hunger. From the AARP website:

"Despite the enormous wealth in our country and right here in Connecticut, more than 9 million older Americans over age 50 – and more than five percent of our state’s population - face the threat of hunger.  On Saturday, May 11, you can help “Stamp Out Hunger” without ever leaving home."

To participate, you just have to leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox and your letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to a local food pantry.

"It’s that easy! Stamp Out Hunger is America’s largest single day food drive and happens on the second Saturday in May each year.  AARP and AARP Foundation are pleased to be a part of this national effort along with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the U.S. Postal Service, as well as numerous other organizations."
