Scranton Memorial Library Building Heavily Damaged In Fire

A fire Monday night heavily damaged a building on the historic property, but thankfully there were no injuries.

MADISON, CT — An empty building at the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library on the Boston Post Road was heavily damaged by a fire Monday night.

Firefighters from Madison, Guilford, Killingworth and Clinton responded to the blaze at the Scranton Library campus, according to Madison Hose Company No. 1.

The building was undergoing extensive renovations and was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

"We are so grateful to the amazing folks who responded to the fire that broke out in an empty building located on our property yesterday evening," library staff said in a statement on Facebook. "They contained the fire quickly, making sure no other buildings were impacted, and not a single person was hurt."

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Madison Fire Marshall's office.
