House Fire Displaces 2, Fire Starts Behind Restaurant: Madison FD

Madison Hose Company No. 1 dealt with two fires nearly back to back Saturday afternoon.

MADISON, CT — A house fire and a fire at a restaurant on the same day and nearly back-to-back had Madison Hose Company No. 1 calling for help from nearby fire departments to assist with the fires.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, around 4:16 p.m., Madison Hose received a dispatch for a structure fire at 542 Boston Post Road on the town green, fire personnel said.

While volunteers were responding to a firehouse and structure fire, at 4:20 p.m., Madison Hose received another dispatch for a vehicle behind Grand Apizza with fire and smoke coming from Grand Apizza Pizza Trick, fire personnel said.

With multiple incidents, the town's mutual aid procedures were followed by dispatch and started fire apparatus from Guilford, Clinton and Killingworth, fire personnel said.

The chief decided to have all Madison Hose units, along with Guilford Fire and Killingworth, respond to the house fire, fire personnel said.

North Madison Fire were already dispatched and on their way to the house fire, fire personnel said.

Chief Robert Kyttle diverted NoMads and Clinton to the vehicle fire behind Grand Apizza, fire personnel said.

No injuries were reported from either incident, but two occupants were displaced from the fire at 543 Boston Post Road, fire personnel said.

The Town’s Fire Marshals office is investigating both instances, fire personnel said.

There were 20 Madison Hose volunteers working on the scene for about four hours, fire personnel said.
