Some singers like to stick to the classics. Others gravitate towards pop standards. But when it came time to put a show together for June 15th at the Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Society in Madison, tenor Marc Deaton decided to go with what he loves.
And so the repertoire that night will include "an eclectic mix of ballads from the French, German, and English classical songbook intermixed with popular standards" from recent decades, says Deaton, who will be performing with pianist Michael Fennelly.
The theme will be "The Moon's a Harsh Mistress" and the cabaret-style performance will include works by Faure, Debussy, Chopin, Manilow, and Cohen.
The June 15th event at SUUS at 297 Boston Post Road in Madison is the first of several performances by Deaton and other artists as part of Madison Lyrical Stage this summer. Other performances are scheduled for July 19 and 20, and August 24.
