Information Session Wednesday On Madison's Academy Community Center

The renovation budget has soared for the Academy Community Center project.

MADISON, CT — The first of two information sessions on Madison's Academy Community Center project is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Brown Intermediate School, according to officials.

The budget for the renovation has soared from $15.9 million, when it was approved in February 2022, to $24 million.

"After recently seeking bids for construction of the project, it was determined that the project budget was short by approximately [$8 million] and more funding would be needed to meet community expectations for the renovation of the building," First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons wrote in a statement.

Officials said the increase "would be solely funded by grants and donations alone - no additional bonding or town funds are being requested for the renovation of the building."

To that end, Madison has already garnered $7.6 million in state and federal grants.
