Last Minute, Need-To-Know Facts For First Day Of School, Madison
Classes start Thursday for Cohort A and for Cohort B, Friday. The latest on masks: bandanas, gaiters, or masks with valves are not allowed.

MADISON, CT — As the school district says it's "excited to welcome students back to school" Thursday, it shared a few last reminders for families.
"As we welcome students back over the next two days, we want you to know we will work to make this year the best it can be," schools interim superintendent JeanAnn C. Paddyfoote said, adding a "huge thank you to everyone who helped prepare for this big day(s) and for everyone’s patience."
School starts Thursday for Cohort A, and on Friday for Cohort B. There will be no distance learning on those two days. Distance learning will begin on Tuesday, September 8.

"After careful review of the document and consultation with the School Medical Advisor and Town Director of Public Health, the district is not allowing bandanas, gaiters, or masks with valves," she wrote. " We apologize for the timing of this communication, and we have child and adult disposable masks available for anyone who needs one."
Late Wednesday afternoon, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons sent her best to students and families.
"I want to wish our teachers, administrators, parents, and most importantly our students, a healthy and successful school re-opening for this academic year," Lyons said.
She also added a few notes of caution motorists.
"As many of you know, the district has opted for a hybrid model of learning where kids will be attending school in-person two days a week, and distance learning three days a week. While school buses will be running daily (except Wednesday) on their regular routes starting tomorrow, many parents will be choosing to drive their kids to and from school through a staggered drop off and pick up system organized at each school," Lyons said. "This is likely to lead to an extended period of high traffic volume around all five schools, so avoid travel in these areas when possible."
Good luck Madison students and families!
