Madison to Hold Special Town Meeting on Island Avenue School
The school is slated to school but a private group wants to start up a Catholic school at the location; now residents can chime in.

MADISON — A special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6th to decide the future fate of the Island Avenue School.
The Board of Selectmen has called the meeting to ask residents to vote on whether they should continue negotiations with a private group - Our Lady of Mercy Preparatory School - to take over the school.
Island Avenue School is set to close in June 2019 as the Madison public school system downsizes the school district due to declining enrollment.

The event follows the closing of Our Lady of Mercy School. Beginning with the 2018-19 academic year, Our Lady of Mercy School, at 149 Neck Road, Madison, will merge with St. Mary School in Branford to form the East Shoreline Catholic Academy at the current site of St. Mary School in Branford.
OLM parents who oppose the merging of the two Catholic schools, plus students, alumni and community supporters, have formed OLM Prep, an independent Catholic school.
