According to Town officials, the community center’s academy school, including the existing theater and gymnasium (with stage), is to be renovated into a multi-purpose community center for activities, programming and events, which may include adult education classes, meeting space, co-working space, lecture space, art classes, performing arts, teen activities, sports activities, marketplace, workshop, kitchen and daycare. It will also house the beach and recreation offices.
The estimated cost for the renovation is $14 million, but with the federal and state historic preservation tax credits, the final cost could be reduced by $2 million to $4 million.

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I want to make sure we invest in Connecticut’s small towns and rural areas,” Murphy said. “I’m proud to have secured funding for these projects that will help fight tick-borne diseases, protect eastern forests, and strengthen community institutions in Cromwell, Winchester, and Madison. I look forward to working with my colleagues to get this budget to the President’s desk,”
