MADISON, CT — Madison had great success applying for and receiving grants in 2022 with a total award of $9.2 million between federal and state programs.

The town was awarded a $2.5 million grant through the federal omnibus spending bill to help expand the Madison host building and build a dedicated emergency operations center.

Another $1 million grant will help pay for a backup generator at Polson Middle School. The school was identified as the best location for the town's emergency shelter, but lacked a backup generator, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting.

Some of the grants require matching funds, and Lyons will come back to the board with details as the projects get closer.

The two projects have been on the town's back burner due to costs, but the grants will move them closer to reality.
