Madison Resident Survives Tragedy To Run A Marathon: Report

Colleen Alexander ran a marathon on the fifth anniversary of her accident.

MADISON, CT—Running a marathon is a challenge but rising to a challenge is something that Madison resident Colleen Alexander knows all about. Alexander was one of thousands of runners who took part in the Eversource Hartford Marathon on Oct. 8, but something sets her apart her from the other participants.

Five years ago Alexander was in a coma, fighting for her life, NBC Connecticut reports.

While biking to a meeting Alexander was run over by a truck. She spent more than five weeks in a coma then had 30 reconstructive surgeries. She never liked running before the accident but when told she might not walk again, she was determined to walk and then run.
