Madison School District, Regional District 13 Receive State Grant

MADISON, CT – State Senator Christine Cohen is thrilled to welcome the state's announcement that over $460,000 in state support will be Released to Regional State District 13 and the Madison School District to support the hiring and retention of mental health specialists through 2026.

On Aug. 3, Governor Ned Lamont announced the release of $15 million in funding for 72 school districts across Connecticut to support the hiring and retaining of school mental specialists through 2026.

“Mental health support is critical to student successes in and out of the classroom, and the past few years have been incredibly tough on students and their families,” Cohen said. “These funds will ensure students have access to the mental health they need and will continue the important work of normalizing seeking help when you need it.”

Regional School District 13 receives $298,350 through the School Mental Health Specialist Grant, and the Madison School District gets $162,000 to help retain and hire mental health specialists through 2026.

Cohen said the grants were spurred by the passage of crucial legislation in 2022 by State Democrats to support youth mental health amid increasing reports of challenges students face today.
