Madison Schools Reducing Budget

Madison schools are trimming their budget.

MADISON--Madison's Board of Education is prepping for state cuts by trimming the budget for the upcoming year.

The BOE cut its budget by $300,000, according to The Madison Source. The fiscal year 2016-2017 budget is now $55,486,204, representing a 3.09% increase for the upcoming school year.

The Madison BOE is expecting cuts to the Education Cost Sharing grant and could lost up to $1.57 million in funds, The Madison Source reports. This year's $300K in reductions will come from non allocated funds.

Madison school and town officials are in a difficult position. They don't know how much ECS funds they will receive as of now because the state's $960 million budget deficit plan has not been finalized.
