Madison Will Put Up Signs At Town Parks: No Weapons Allowed
The selectmen just took action after police chief said it was up to them to ban weapons at town parks

MADISON, CT — The town will be installing signs at town parks which state that weapons are prohibited it was decided at the most recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
Some Madison residents were asking the Board of Police Commissioners to create an ordinance banning gun on town property. The issue arose after a man was seen openly carrying a gun at the Surf Club and police were called, despite the fact no laws were broken.
Police Chief Jack Drumm said an order banning guns on town-owned recreation areas would have to come from the selectmen.

First Selectman Tom Banisch said the town looked into the matter and there is an ordinance in place currently which prohibits weapons from Town Parks; however, there is state legislation which allows for the carrying of guns with a permit.
Banisch that the Town will install signage at Town Parks which state that weapons are prohibited from Town Parks. The ordinance only applies to town parks (beaches, baseball fields, etc.) which are overseen by the Beach and Recreation Department.
