Obituary: Gregory J. Abate, 50, of Madison

An artist, he enjoyed archeology, gemology, chess, and collecting, but was happiest around the campfire after a day exploring with his son.

Sunday, October 15, 2023 Gregory J. Abate, 50, resident of Madison passed away peacefully. Greg was born in New Haven on June 28, 1973, son of Patrick Abate and Linda (Orlando) Abate of Madison. Loving father of Rider Abate. Brother of Lesley Lambert and her husband Peter of Portsmouth Rhode Island and Uncle to Laurel and Everett Lambert also of Portsmouth. He is also survived by his loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his grandparents John and Sue Orlando and Paul and Angeline Abate.

Greg is a graduate of Daniel Hand High School and attended Colorado State University. Greg was an artist who worked in many mediums with a focus on minerals and jewelry. Greg enjoyed camping and was happiest around the fire after a day exploring with his son. Greg was a collector of many things including fossils, artifacts, baseball cards and coins. He had a passion for archeology, gemology and chess. His family loved him and will miss him terribly.

Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Saturday, October 21 at 10 am. Burial services will be held privately.
