Obituary: Refat "Ray" Selmani, 74, of Madison

A wonderful stone, brick mason on the CT shoreline for 50 years, a trade he's passed on to his children, he also owned Villa Café in Berlin.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Refat "Ray" Selmani, beloved husband of 48 years to Joan Goodale Selmani, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Born in Ladorishte, Macedonia on March 5, 1949, Ray was the son of the late Esma and Aziz Selmani. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ejup and sister, Amzade, as well as his daughter, Lynette Colon.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, his children, Murray (Beverly) Colton, Adolph, Mendi (Kristen) and Michael Selmani, his brothers, Shaip, Nebi, and Selim, sisters Farije and Bajrame, his beloved grandchildren who called him Baba and were the loves of his life: Ciara, Murray, Kelsey, Hannah, Alexis, Jesse, Wesley, Kassidy, Morris, Madison, and Nicholas, his great-granddaughter, Riley, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ray was a wonderful stone and brick mason on the Connecticut shoreline for 50 years. He also owned The Villa Cafe in Berlin, CT. The legacy of his masonry trade will be enjoyed by his clients and his teachings will be carried on by his children.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Connecticut Hospice. Donations to Connecticut Hospice, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or the Guilford Rescue Squad would be appreciated.

Calling hours will be at East Haven Memorial Funeral Home -425 Main St, East Haven, CT on Thursday, September 28th from 4-7pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
