Obituary: Roy Edwin Handy, 77, of Westbrook, formerly Madison

Roy Edwin Handy of Westbrook, CT peacefully passed away on May 11, 2024.

Roy was born on May 2, 1947 in New Haven, CT to William and Marguerite Handy. Roy graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1965 in Madison, CT. Roy enlisted and served in the United States Navy. Roy wed Helena in 1969 and had two children, Lynn A. Handy and William R. Handy.

Roy was employed at RR Donnelley’s in Old Saybrook, CT before finding his life long career at Pratt & Whitney for over 30 years.

Roy was predeceased by his loving wife Helena after 54 years of marriage. Roy was also predeceased by his loving children Lynn and William.

Roy is survived by his sister Sue (Curtis) Doerrer of Davenport, Florida and his brother Wayne (Susan) Handy of Clinton, CT. Brother-in-law Theodore (Kathleen) Rahmann of Madison, CT. Roy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In retirement, Roy was an avid fan and follower of the UCONN Women’s Basketball team. Roy loved The New England Patriots and The New York Yankees. Roy also enjoyed the casino and going on long drives in his daughter Lynn’s red convertible. Roy loved playing poker and setback with his many friends.

Roy was extremely appreciative of the generous care and support that Kathleen Rahmann, Julie Chasse, and Renee Doerrer provided him over the last several years.

Friends are invited to visitation hours on Saturday May 18, 2024 at 9:00 - 10:30 am at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford, CT followed by Graveside service at Westside Cemetery, 55 Race Hill Rd, North Madison, CT.
