MADISON — As the 2023 municipal elections get closer in Madison, there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Madison Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will publish candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

John Rasimas, 63, is running for a seat on the Board of Finance in Madison as a Republican candidate.

What is your occupation?

Retired CPA / Adjunct Professor.

Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

Wife Kathy (looks younger than me) - Daughters Nicole (35) and Andrea (29).

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

No.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

Yes, Board of Finance - Town of Madison (9/2023-present) Town of Southington 11/1997-10/2002

Why are you seeking this office?

I love Madison and want to make it a place where our residents can afford to live here and our young families can expect a top/tier education system.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Taxation and I plan to do what I can to ensure that our tax dollars are properly monitored and that our capital projects are affordable and that established budgets are. It exceeded.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Under the current administration, the level of spending has increased significantly, projects are not coming in on budget, and we have overtaxed our residents.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Working with our state delegation to increase education aid through our Education Cost Sharing (ECS) grants.

Funding the obligations we have incurred, but have not set resources aside for (most notably almost $16 million for town retirees other post-employment benefits).

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I was a vote for fiscal conservative decisions when I served on the Southington Board of Finance. I also worked to secure additional state support for our education system and town projects.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Listen more, talk less.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I appreciate the support I have received from the voters in the past, and I promise to maintain their trust and confidence if they decide to keep me on the Board of Finance.
