Phone Scam Warning Issued By Madison Police
The scammers are pretending to be police officers, according to authorities.
MADISON, CT — A recent phone scam circulating through Madison and the region has caught the attention of the town's police department, which has issued a warning about it.
"Scammers are calling individuals while claiming to be from a local police department," Madison police officials posted on the department's Facebook page. "They tell victims that they have outstanding warrants and must immediately pay money to avoid being arrested."
The department said that in some cases, the scammers "demand that you withdraw cash or send payment through Bitcoin or other untraceable methods," which is one of the tell-tale signs of a con.
