Some New Madison Coronavirus Cases Include Omicron Variant: Lyons
First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said the town has 25 new COVID-19 cases, some include the omicron variant, and three people are hospitalized.
MADISON, CT — First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said Friday that the "uptick" in coronavirus cases include the COVID-19 variant omicron. She also said that there are three people are currently hospitalized.
"Given that starting next week many will begin to celebrate the winter holidays and travel to visit friends and family, we strongly advise all vaccinated residents to follow CDC guidance regarding COVID-19 booster shots, which provide additional protection from the spread of the virus," she said in a community message.
As of Friday afternoon, there are 25 active cases.

Lyons is encouraging vaccinated residents to get booster shots, which widely available at pharmacies and through health care providers and clinics throughout the state. She's also encouraging "anyone with children five years of age or older to get their children vaccinated against COVID-19, especially if you are making any travel plans for the winter break."
"Vaccinating our young people against COVID is the best way to ensure our children stay in school," Lyons said.

According to the Madison Public Schools' COVID-19 tracker, as of Friday, there were 22 active cases with the majority seen at Jeffrey Elementary School, but no school is spared.
